Konstantinos Koulierakis is expected to become the latest new face in Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad during Roma’s pre-season training camp in Wales.
The Giallorossi will arrive in Wales on Friday evening for the second phase of their summer preparations. The team will be based at the Vale Resort in Hensol, around 20 kilometres from Cardiff, and train at the WRU National Centre of Excellence until August 7 before moving on to Brighton.
Gasperini will initially welcome Santiago Castro as the principal new addition following the Argentine striker’s €35 million transfer from Bologna. Koulierakis, however, is expected to join the group once the remaining formalities surrounding his move from Wolfsburg have been completed.
Roma sporting director Tony D’Amico has reportedly finalised an agreement with the German club worth approximately €15 million. The Giallorossi had already reached an understanding with the Greek centre-back over personal terms.
Koulierakis must now complete his medical examinations and sign his contract before the transfer can be officially announced. If the process proceeds as expected, he could travel to Wales and begin working with Gasperini and his new teammates during the camp.
The 22-year-old arrives after two seasons in Germany and has already accumulated significant experience with the Greek national team. A left-footed central defender, he will add youth, physical strength and further depth to Roma’s defensive options.
D’Amico continues working on additional reinforcements, but Koulierakis is currently the deal closest to completion. His expected arrival in Wales would give Gasperini an early opportunity to begin integrating him into Roma’s defensive system before the start of the new season.
