Givairo Read for Feyenoord

Roma submit €25m bid for Givairo Read but face wage battle with Nottingham Forest

Roma have taken the lead in the race for Givairo Read by submitting a higher transfer offer than Nottingham Forest, but convincing the player could prove to be the biggest challenge.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi have offered €25 million to Feyenoord for the highly rated Dutch full-back. The proposal exceeds Nottingham Forest’s reported €21 million bid.

While Roma currently lead on the transfer fee, the Premier League side are ahead financially in negotiations with the player. Nottingham Forest have reportedly reached an agreement with Read worth €4 million per season.

Roma are not expected to match those salary figures. Instead, the club hope to convince the 19-year-old to accept a contract worth around €2.8-3 million per year, using the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League under Gian Piero Gasperini as a key selling point.

Negotiations remain ongoing as sporting director Tony D’Amico looks to complete another important signing following the arrivals of Santiago Castro and Konstantinos Koulierakis.
