Roma midfielder Niccolò Pisilli has reaffirmed his commitment to the Giallorossi, insisting he has never considered leaving the club despite transfer speculation earlier this year.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with LaRoma24 from Roma’s training camp in Wales, the 21-year-old discussed his recovery, his ambitions for the new season and his dream of playing Champions League football with the club he has supported since childhood.
Recovery on track
Pisilli confirmed he is close to returning from injury and expects to be back with the squad soon.
“I’m getting better every day. I’m working hard to return and I should be back in about a week.”
Focused on improvement
After an important breakthrough campaign last season, Pisilli believes there is still plenty of room for growth under Gian Piero Gasperini.
“I hope this can be my season, but my objective has always been the same: work every day and improve. I’m only 21 and I have my whole career ahead of me. This is the time to learn and become a more complete player.”
The midfielder also stressed that his position on the pitch is less important than understanding the coach’s ideas.
“It’s not about the formation or the specific role. What matters are the coach’s ideas and finding the right balance.”
“I’ve never thought about another club”
Pisilli also addressed reports linking him with a move away from Roma during both the January and summer transfer windows.
He admitted that a loan was discussed earlier in the year when opportunities were limited but insisted his focus has always remained on Roma.
“My agent handled everything perfectly. When I wasn’t playing much, leaving seemed like the right option, but things worked out well for both me and the team.”
Asked whether he had received any offers this summer, Pisilli was unequivocal.
“As far as I know, nothing arrived. I’ve never had anything else in my mind besides Roma. I’ve never thought about leaving.”
A childhood dream awaits
Pisilli admitted that playing in the Champions League with Roma is something he once thought impossible.
“It’s incredible. As a kid you watch the Champions League and think it’s the highest level, together with the World Cup. To play it with the club I’ve supported since I was a child is a dream.”
Praise for Pellegrini
The academy graduate also expressed hope that Lorenzo Pellegrini signs a new contract.
“We all know how strong Lorenzo is. We hope he renews because he’s a fantastic player and a great person. We’d welcome him back with open arms.”
As Roma prepare for the 2026/27 campaign, Pisilli remains determined to continue his development and help the Giallorossi compete in both Serie A and the Champions League. His objective for the season is simple:
“I’ll be happy if I’ve improved as a player and if the team has had a great season in Serie A and the Champions League.”
