Santiago Castro made his first appearance in a Roma shirt on Saturday as Gian Piero Gasperini handed the Argentine striker an immediate start against Cardiff City just days after completing his move from Bologna.
The 21-year-old led the line in Roma’s 4-1 pre-season defeat in Wales, showing glimpses of the energy, movement and pressing ability that convinced the Giallorossi to invest in him this summer. Castro worked tirelessly throughout his time on the pitch before making way for Donyell Malen in the second half.
While the result was disappointing, the friendly marked an important first step for Roma’s new No. 9 as he begins adapting to Gasperini’s demanding system ahead of the new Serie A and Champions League campaigns.
Roma supporters can now watch the best moments from Castro’s unofficial debut, with highlights showcasing every touch and key involvement from the Argentine’s first outing in Giallorosso.
