Givairo Read has broken his silence after his proposed move to Roma failed to materialise, insisting he is happy to remain at Feyenoord for another season.
The Dutch full-back had been heavily linked with the Giallorossi throughout the summer before Roma turned their attention to Nahuel Molina, bringing an end to negotiations.
Speaking to ESPN, Read admitted he has no regrets about how the situation unfolded.
“Actually, I’m not even disappointed. It could have gone either way. I’ve already said I shouldn’t leave Feyenoord because I haven’t finished learning here yet, so I’m happy to be here.”
The 19-year-old acknowledged that a transfer was a real possibility but believes he will now stay in Rotterdam.
“It was an opportunity, of course, but I’m happy to be here. A transfer could still happen, but in reality it looks like I’ll stay.”
Read also revealed that his family and agent helped him remain calm throughout the transfer saga.
“I’m calm about it. I often talk to my family and my agent, who keep me calm. I’m naturally relaxed, so there isn’t much going on in my head about it.”
Looking ahead to the new campaign, the defender believes staying at Feyenoord is the right step in his development.
“We play in the Champions League and I still have a lot to improve. Those two things are important for this season.”
