Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie has revealed that Francesco Totti was his childhood idol, praising the Roma legend for the loyalty he showed throughout his career.
Speaking to Tuttosport, McKennie reflected on becoming Juventus vice-captain and the players who inspired him growing up.
“It’s first and foremost a huge honour. It’s a dream come true. When I was little, even though some people might not like hearing me say it, my idol was Francesco Totti, especially because of his loyalty.”
The American international also highlighted Alessandro Del Piero as another player he admired, pointing to the difficulty of spending an entire career at a club as demanding as Juventus.
“I also cite Del Piero’s example. Staying at a club for that long, especially at Juventus, isn’t easy. You have to deal with the pressure every day. That’s something I learned from Pirlo when I arrived.”
Totti spent his entire professional career with Roma, making 786 appearances for the Giallorossi and cementing his status as one of the greatest one-club players in football history.
