Roma and Porto are continuing negotiations for Rodrigo Mora with growing confidence that an agreement can be reached.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Porto appreciate Roma’s willingness to explore several different formulas to complete the transfer. Jorge Mendes has travelled to Porto to meet president André Villas-Boas, with a decisive breakthrough potentially arriving within the next few hours.
Roma have reportedly presented three possible structures for the deal. The first is a €7-8 million paid loan with a €42-43 million option to buy. The second would see Roma pay €25 million now followed by another €25 million next year. The third is a €25 million permanent transfer with Porto retaining 50% of any future resale.
Roma do not intend to exceed €50 million in total for the Portuguese talent and are waiting for Porto to decide which structure could provide the basis for a final agreement.
Galatasaray are currently the only other club competing for Mora, but Roma remain firmly in negotiations as Mendes works directly with Porto to find a solution.
After extensive talks over the weekend, the next few hours could now prove decisive in Roma’s attempt to bring the 19-year-old to the capital.
6:33 PM ET — Alfredo Pedullà: Roma very confident of completing Rodrigo Mora deal
According to Alfredo Pedullà, Roma are very confident of completing the signing of Rodrigo Mora, with all three parties aligned: Porto want to sell, Roma want to buy and Mora wants the move.
Talks made significant progress today and will resume tomorrow morning in an attempt to finalize the agreement. Roma’s preferred structure is €25 million upfront plus a 40% future sell-on clause, although Porto are asking for 50%.
That percentage could later be removed for another €20 million, bringing the operation to €45 million, while a straight €25m + €25m structure is another possibility. Jorge Mendes continues to work between the clubs to find the final formula, with Mora very eager to join Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma.
4:28 PM ET — Gianluca Di Marzio: Rodrigo Mora extremely close to Roma
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Rodrigo Mora is now extremely close to joining Roma, with negotiations in the final stages and only one last detail left to resolve.
There is maximum confidence that a full agreement can be reached within hours. Roma are set to pay €25 million while leaving Porto a 50% share of any future sale.
In 2027, the Giallorossi would then pay a further €25 million to buy out Porto’s 50% sell-on right, taking the overall package to €50 million.
2:47 PM ET — Jorge Mendes in direct talks with Porto over Rodrigo Mora
Direct contacts are underway between Jorge Mendes and Porto as negotiations for Rodrigo Mora continue. Porto want to sell the Portuguese talent, Roma want to sign him and Mora wants the move to Roma, leaving the structure of the deal as the key issue.
A loan is considered impossible. Roma could offer €25 million now and another €25 million next summer, although the Giallorossi would prefer to pay €25 million upfront while leaving Porto a significant percentage of a future sale. Roma would like that percentage to be around 40%, while Porto are pushing for 50%.
It’s possible there’s some negotiation to be done on adding more money to the overall price and getting rid of the sell on percentage.
9:30 AM ET — Roma working to reduce Rodrigo Mora’s immediate financial impact
According to Checco Casano, Roma are working to structure the Rodrigo Mora deal in a way that limits its immediate impact on the club’s accounts.
A €25 million upfront payment would reportedly result in an annual cost of around €9 million, leaving Roma room for further investment in the squad.
The remaining €20-25 million requested by Porto could be structured through bonuses and other components, with Tony D’Amico and Jorge Mendes working on a formula that satisfies Porto’s demands for a permanent transfer.
9:25 AM ET — Lorenzo Canicchio: Sell-on clause could lower Roma’s Rodrigo Mora package to €40m
According to Lorenzo Canicchio, the inclusion of a 10% future sell-on clause for Porto could allow Roma to reduce the proposed Rodrigo Mora deal from the initial €5m loan plus €45m to €5m plus €35m.
Roma would prefer a conditional obligation to buy over the other formulas being discussed, but the priority is now to reach a final agreement and close the deal as quickly as possible.
Canicchio says thats Mora will sign a 5 year contract worth €1.7m and escalating upwards.
9:15 AM ET — Fabrizio Romano: Roma reach contract agreement with Rodrigo Mora
