Speaking on Mana Sport Radio, Angelo Mangiante outlined several key ideas behind Roma’s current transfer strategy under Gian Piero Gasperini.
Mangiante reports that Gasperini does not want players arriving on simple loan deals. The coach would prefer to work with players who are fully committed to Roma’s project and can become part of the squad beyond a short-term spell.
That thinking is also reflected in the pursuit of Rodrigo Mora. Roma believe signing the Portuguese talent would help lower the average age of the squad and prepare the team for the future, particularly with the expectation that this could be the final season in Rome for Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Roma are also evaluating departures in defence. According to Mangiante, the club are trying to sell Jan Ziolkowski rather than Daniele Ghilardi. Ghilardi is viewed internally as a potential deputy to Gianluca Mancini, while the arrival of Konstantinos Koulierakis has made Ziolkowski more expendable because his opportunities could become limited.
Mangiante also adds that Matías Soulé could be sold. Gasperini is reportedly not convinced the Argentine will develop into a top-level star or improve significantly beyond his current level, which has left Roma open to considering strong offers.
The picture is therefore becoming clearer: Roma want younger players who fit Gasperini’s long-term project, while several current members of the squad could be moved on if the club believes they do not have a central role in that future.
