José Mourinho has looked back on his time at Roma and the emotional connection he developed with the club and its supporters.
Speaking in the new Netflix docuseries “The Special One,” the current Real Madrid coach reflected on Roma’s 2022 Conference League triumph and described winning the trophy in Tirana as a remarkable achievement given the resources available to him.
“What I did at Porto at the beginning of my career, I did again at Roma,” Mourinho said. “I knew I could never win the Champions League there, but I felt deeply loved, and winning the Conference was a small miracle.”
The Portuguese coach explained that success should be measured against the potential of the team before reflecting warmly on his experience in the Italian capital.
“My career has given me the right to happiness, and in Rome, I was happy,” Mourinho added.
Mourinho guided Roma to their first UEFA trophy with victory over Feyenoord in the 2022 Conference League final. He then took the Giallorossi to another European final the following season, where they were beaten by Sevilla on penalties in the Europa League final in Budapest.
