Roma’s transfer window reached another decisive point on Thursday as the club continued to wait for a breakthrough in the Rodrigo Mora negotiations. Meanwhile, Malick Fofana and Christopher Nkunku are emerging as alternatives, while Roma continue to work on Destiny Udogie and potential departures.
Rodrigo Mora deal reaches breaking point
Roma are demanding clarity from Porto after negotiations for Rodrigo Mora stalled over the conditions attached to the obligation to buy.
According to O Jogo, Porto stopped negotiations after Roma rejected a proposal worth €10 million for the loan plus €40 million for the purchase, along with bonuses and a future sell-on percentage. Porto also want conditions that would make the obligation easier to trigger.
The deal has not collapsed, however. Jorge Mendes continues to mediate between the clubs in an attempt to find a compromise.
Matteo Moretto reports that Roma want a definitive answer as soon as possible. If the operation cannot be unlocked, the Giallorossi are prepared to abandon the pursuit and move on to alternatives.
Malick Fofana remains firmly on Roma’s radar
One of those alternatives could be Malick Fofana.
According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Lyon winger remains on Roma’s radar while the club waits for the Mora situation to reach a conclusion.
Lyon initially valued Fofana at around €45 million, but that asking price has now dropped to approximately €40 million. Pedullà adds that there could even be room to negotiate a deal for a lower figure.
Roma could therefore turn their attention toward the Belgian if the Mora negotiations finally collapse.
Nkunku available as Gasperini interest continues
Christopher Nkunku has also become a player to watch.
Filippo Biafora reports that Milan have decided to sell the French attacker, who was already discussed by Roma during the January transfer window. Nkunku is also considered one of the attacking profiles appreciated by Gian Piero Gasperini.
Fabrizio Romano later reported that Nkunku has been completely excluded from Milan’s first-team plans and will no longer train with the squad. The 28-year-old is open to different solutions, including a move that would not necessarily be permanent.
There are currently no active negotiations between Roma and Milan, but his availability could create an opportunity later in the window.
Roma continue Udogie pursuit
Destiny Udogie remains another important name for Roma.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Tottenham wing-back has already given his approval to a potential move to the Italian capital.
Ekrem Konur adds that Roma are preparing an offer and would prefer a loan with an option to buy, while Tottenham continue to value the Italian at around €30 million.
The player’s approval is therefore not an obstacle. Roma must now find a formula capable of convincing Spurs.
Assane Diao returns to the list
Roma are also reconsidering Assane Diao as another potential attacking option.
According to Peppe Lo Monaco of Mana Sport, the Giallorossi appreciate the Como winger but currently have concerns over his physical condition.
Como value the 20-year-old at around €25-30 million. Diao remains under consideration as Roma prepare alternatives in case the Mora deal cannot be rescued.
Fiorentina and Galatasaray monitor Soulé
Roma could also receive offers for Matias Soulé before the transfer deadline.
According to Ekrem Konur, Fiorentina are assessing the Argentine as a potential signing, with Fabio Paratici familiar with him from Juventus.
Galatasaray have also made an approach and are monitoring his situation, with official talks potentially following.
Soulé’s future could have a significant impact on Roma’s ability to make another major attacking investment.
Salah-Eddine could leave for Olympiacos
On the outgoing front, Anass Salah-Eddine could be approaching another departure from Roma.
AfricaFoot reports that Roma and Olympiacos have reached an agreement over a loan with an option to buy.
The final decision now belongs to Salah-Eddine. Olympiacos are expected to present their sporting project directly to the player as they attempt to secure his approval.
Roma approaching a decisive transfer stretch
Roma’s immediate priority remains resolving the Rodrigo Mora saga. The club does not want negotiations with Porto to continue indefinitely and alternatives are already being evaluated.
Fofana appears to be one of the most prominent names if Roma walk away, while Nkunku’s availability provides another intriguing possibility for Gasperini.
With Udogie, Diao and several outgoing situations also developing, Roma are entering a crucial final stretch of the summer transfer window.
