The Portuguese youngster has impressed Gasperini in training and is reportedly involved in a three-way battle for Roma’s attacking-midfield role
Rodrigo Mora has made an encouraging first impression at the Fulvio Bernardini, putting himself in contention to start Roma’s Serie A opener against Fiorentina.
According to Corriere della Sera, as reported by Simone Valdarchi, the new signing has impressed Gian Piero Gasperini during his opening training sessions with the Giallorossi. His early impact has been convincing enough for the coach to consider handing him an immediate place in the starting lineup.
Roma are expected to use a 3-4-1-2 formation against Fiorentina’s four-man defence. The system would feature one attacking midfielder operating behind two forwards.
There is reportedly a three-way competition for that role between Bryan Cristante, Matias Soulé and Mora. Gasperini will make his final decision after assessing the players during the remaining training sessions before Monday’s match.
Despite having only recently arrived from Porto, Mora could therefore make his Roma debut from the opening whistle at the Stadio Olimpico. Even if he begins on the bench, the 19-year-old is firmly in contention to feature in the club’s first competitive match of the 2026/27 season.
