12:35 PM ET — Matteo De Girolamo: Molina’s suspension only applies to competitive international matches
According to Matteo De Girolamo, the national-team suspensions issued following the Argentina-Spain clash must be served in official fixtures and cannot be completed during friendlies.
Nahuel Molina can therefore continue to receive call-ups without immediately serving his seven-match ban, as Argentina are not expected to play another competitive match for approximately one year.
Nahuel Molina receives a seven-match ban, while Gavi, Thiago Almada and Roberto Ayala are also sanctioned
FIFA has issued several suspensions following the post-match clash between Argentina and Spain, with former Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes receiving the most significant punishment.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Paredes has been suspended for 10 national-team matches and fined $90,000. The disciplinary action applies exclusively to international fixtures and will not affect his availability at club level.
Argentina teammate Nahuel Molina has received a seven-game international suspension and a $90,000 fine.
Thiago Almada will serve a one-match ban and pay a $30,000 fine, while Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala has been suspended for three matches and fined $30,000.
Spain midfielder Gavi has also been sanctioned with a one-game international suspension and a $30,000 fine.
The confirmed sanctions are:
- Leandro Paredes: 10-game suspension and $90,000 fine
- Nahuel Molina: seven-game suspension and $90,000 fine
- Roberto Ayala: three-game suspension and $30,000 fine
- Thiago Almada: one-game suspension and $30,000 fine
- Gavi: one-game suspension and $30,000 fine
All five suspensions will be served during national-team matches.
