11:52 AM ET — Jamie Gittens Emerges as Concrete Roma Target
Jamie Gittens is a genuine target for Roma, according to Lorenzo Canicchio. Chelsea’s current conditions for a possible departure are significantly different from those communicated during the first enquiries two months ago.
This has given Roma the opportunity to pursue the 2004-born winger with greater conviction.
It should soon become clear whether sporting director Tony D’Amico will make a decisive move, but the possibility is now considered more than concrete.
The Giallorossi want a loan deal, but Chelsea are currently seeking a permanent transfer for the English winger
Roma have made contact with Chelsea to explore a possible move for Jamie Gittens as they search for another attacking winger before the transfer window closes.
According to Attilio Malena, Roma’s interest in Gittens is not new. The Englishman has been on the club’s list for some time, although the Giallorossi would only pursue a deal under conditions compatible with their current transfer strategy.
Riccardo Trevisani and Mana Sport report that direct contact has taken place between Roma and Chelsea. The Premier League club are currently asking for a permanent transfer due to restrictions surrounding their available outgoing loan slots, while Roma want to complete the operation exclusively on loan.
The difference between the two clubs’ preferred formulas makes the move complicated at this stage. The possibility could reopen, however, if Chelsea soften their position later in the window and become willing to discuss a temporary transfer.
Lorenzo Canicchio has also confirmed that Roma requested information from Chelsea about Gittens. The winger is described as a concrete option to monitor closely, although he is not the only attacking profile under consideration at Trigoria.
With Gasperini still requesting another offensive addition, Roma are evaluating several alternatives while prioritizing operations requiring a limited immediate financial commitment.
