Roma midfielder Rodrigo Mora training ahead of a possible start against Fiorentina

Gazzetta dello Sport: Rodrigo Mora could start Roma-Fiorentina alongside Dybala

The Portuguese youngster has impressed Gasperini with his physical condition during his first training sessions at Trigoria

Rodrigo Mora has made an immediate impression on Gian Piero Gasperini and is reportedly in contention to start Roma’s Serie A opener against Fiorentina.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Portuguese youngster has displayed an excellent level of physical fitness during his first training sessions at Trigoria.

Gasperini is now considering whether to include Mora in the starting lineup on Monday evening. The new signing could operate alongside Paulo Dybala and behind Donyell Malen in Roma’s attack.

Earlier today in his pre-match press conference Gasperini had praised Mora for being physically prepared for the season ahead and being a real talent.

Such a selection would hand Mora his competitive debut only days after completing his transfer from Porto.

Decision pending for Fiorentina

Gasperini has attempted to manage expectations surrounding Mora while acknowledging that the midfielder may be ready to contribute immediately.

His fitness, technical quality and previous senior experience have allowed him to enter the coach’s considerations despite having spent only a few days with his new teammates.

A final decision is expected after Roma complete their remaining training sessions before the Fiorentina match.

Whether he starts or enters from the bench, Mora appears increasingly likely to make his first appearance at the Stadio Olimpico during Roma’s opening match of the 2026/27 campaign.
