7:59 PM ET — Roma prepare renewed push for Gittens
AS Roma will attempt to intensify their pursuit of Jamie Gittens according to Attilio Malena.
Aston Villa have also made an enquiry for the Chelsea winger in recent hours.
The Giallorossi will contact Chelsea by Wednesday while continuing to evaluate Malick Fofana and Alessio Cacciamani.
Roma are preparing one final attempt to sign Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes.
According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Giallorossi plan to contact Chelsea by Wednesday to determine whether the Premier League club are willing to reconsider their position.
Chelsea rejected Roma’s opening proposal, which reportedly consisted of a €3 million loan fee with a €40 million option to buy. The Blues have maintained that Gittens is part of Xabi Alonso’s plans and is not available on loan.
Roma will nevertheless make another approach before deciding whether to abandon the operation permanently.
Roma continue to wait for Fofana
Malick Fofana also remains under consideration. Roma previously reached an agreement with the Lyon winger’s representatives but have yet to advance negotiations with the French club.
Pedullà reports that Fofana’s possible departure does not depend on whether Lyon qualify for the Champions League. Roma will assess the situation and decide whether the conditions exist to make a late move.
That account contrasts with a report from Sacha Tavolieri claiming Fofana would prefer to remain at Lyon if the club secures Champions League qualification.
Alessio Cacciamani also remains in the background as a possible option, although Roma have yet to meet Torino’s valuation.
