The Giallorossi sporting director discussed Gasperini, UEFA restrictions and the possibility of further business before the window closes.
Tony D’Amico has confirmed that Roma will remain alert for opportunities during the final week of the summer transfer window.
Speaking to DAZN shortly before Roma’s Serie A opener against Fiorentina, the sporting director first discussed his relationship with Gian Piero Gasperini following their successful spell together at Atalanta.
“I spent three fantastic years with the coach, full of emotions and results at Atalanta,” D’Amico said. “He helped me greatly with my arrival because I officially began the role on June 20, in the middle of the transfer market. Knowing him already made things easier for me.”
D’Amico discusses Roma’s remaining transfer plans
D’Amico refused to rule out another addition but acknowledged that Roma must continue respecting the restrictions imposed by their UEFA settlement agreement.
“We are alert in the market; there is one week remaining,” he explained. “The agreement with UEFA is known to everyone. We have parameters to respect that sometimes force us to change targets and reconsider our strategies.
“If opportunities emerge to expand the squad, we will evaluate them between now and the end of the market.”
Asked about the possibility of selling an important player for financial reasons, D’Amico replied: “It is difficult to imagine that with only a few days remaining in the transfer window.”
The Roma director also anticipated a demanding opening match against Fiorentina.
“I expect a Fiorentina team with great enthusiasm,” he said. “They have been active and invested in the market, so it will be a complicated match. We must focus on ourselves, with this atmosphere driving us forward. Hopefully, we can give our best.”
