Donyell Malen scored three times and Paulo Dybala supplied three assists as Roma opened their Serie A campaign with a dominant victory at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma began the 2026/27 Serie A season in emphatic fashion, defeating Fiorentina 4-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
Donyell Malen was the star of the evening with a hat-trick, while Paulo Dybala produced an outstanding creative performance by assisting all three of the Dutchman’s goals. Niccolò Pisilli completed the scoring late in the match.
Malen and Dybala dismantle Fiorentina
Roma immediately imposed Gian Piero Gasperini’s aggressive style, pressing high and repeatedly troubling Fiorentina’s defence.
Rodrigo Mora nearly marked his debut with a goal in the 19th minute forcing David De Gea into an impressive save with a curling effort. Roma thought they had taken the lead moments later through Mario Hermoso, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
The breakthrough arrived in the 27th minute. Dybala released Malen inside the penalty area, with the striker producing a clever finish to give Roma a deserved advantage.
Roma maintained control after the interval and doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when Malen converted another pass from Dybala. The pair combined again eight minutes later, Dybala supplying an outside-of-the-foot delivery for Malen to complete his hat-trick.
Pisilli added the fourth goal in the 86th minute, reacting quickest inside the area to place the finishing touch on a memorable opening night.
A statement opening victory
The result provided Gasperini with an ideal beginning to the new campaign. Roma combined intensity and attacking quality while keeping a clean sheet against a heavily reinforced Fiorentina side.
Malen’s clinical finishing and Dybala’s creativity produced the headlines, while Mora offered encouraging flashes on his first appearance in Giallorossi colours.
