The Giallorossi will discover their eight league-phase opponents when the Champions League draw takes place in Monaco on Thursday.
Roma will discover their opponents for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase on Thursday, August 27.
The draw begins at 18:00 CEST at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. It will be broadcast in Italy on Sky Sport 24 and streamed free through UEFA.com and UEFA.tv. UEFA expects to confirm the complete fixture schedule, including dates and kick-off times, by Saturday, August 29.
Roma return to Europe’s leading club competition after securing qualification through last season’s third-place Serie A finish.
How the Champions League draw works
The competition features 36 clubs divided into four pots of nine teams. Roma are in Pot 2.
Each club will face two opponents from every pot, including its own. One match against a team from each pot will be played at home and the other away, giving Roma eight league-phase fixtures—four at the Stadio Olimpico and four on the road.
Roma cannot be drawn against another Italian club during the league phase, ruling out matches against Inter, Napoli and Como.
UEFA’s regulations also prevent a club from facing more than two opponents from the same national association. For example, if Roma draw Barcelona and Real Betis, they cannot be paired with a third Spanish side.
The draw will determine the opponents and home-or-away designation, while the full calendar will follow later.

Roma’s eight league-phase matches will be played on the following dates:

- Matchday 5: November 24–25, 2026

- Matchday 8: January 27, 2027
The final round will feature every league-phase match being played simultaneously.
How teams qualify for the knockout phase
All 36 clubs will be placed in one league table.
The top eight teams advance directly to the round of 16. Clubs finishing between ninth and 24th enter the knockout phase playoffs, while those placed 25th or lower are eliminated from Europe.
Teams finishing from ninth to 16th will be seeded in the playoffs and play the return leg at home. Those from 17th to 24th will be unseeded.
The four highest league-phase finishers retain seeding protection through the quarter-finals, while the top two retain it through the semi-finals. If a seeded club is eliminated, the team that defeats it inherits its place in the bracket and the associated home-leg advantage.

The final will be played at Atlético Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano.
For Roma, Thursday’s draw will provide the first clear picture of the European challenge awaiting Gian Piero Gasperini and his squad.
