Roma have cancelled their agreement with Fenerbahçe for Jayden Oosterwolde because they could not confidently predict when the defender would be ready to return, according to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu.

The club reportedly determined that Oosterwolde would require approximately three to four weeks before resuming team training and six to eight weeks to return fully to competitive action leading the Giallorossi to withdraw from the transfer.

According to sources close to Jayden Oosterwolde, his proposed transfer to Roma has fallen through after the Giallorossi changed the conditions offered to the player.

The Fenerbahçe defender had travelled believing he would sign his contract, although neither club has officially confirmed the collapse of the deal.

Further details have emerged regarding Jayden Oosterwolde’s physical condition. According to Sky Sport, the defender’s recovery could keep him out of action until January.

Roma still want to complete his signing but have proposed a free loan and changes to the purchase clause following the medical examinations, with the deal now dependent on Fenerbahçe accepting the revised conditions.

The Giallorossi remain interested in the Dutch defender but have proposed significantly revised terms following his medical examinations.

The defender underwent additional medical examinations after arriving in the Italian capital prompting Roma to reconsider the financial structure of the agreement previously reached with Fenerbahçe.

Roma await Fenerbahçe decision

Roma initially negotiated a paid loan containing a €15 million purchase option, plus bonuses, which could become mandatory upon the fulfilment of appearance-related conditions.

Concerns over Oosterwolde’s recovery timeline have led the club to seek a less risky formula. Roma still believe in the player and want to keep him, but are unwilling to complete the operation under the original terms following the information discovered during his medical assessments.

The deal now depends on Fenerbahçe’s final response. Should the Turkish club accept the proposed free loan and changes to the purchase mechanism, Oosterwolde would be able to complete his move to Roma and begin his rehabilitation at Trigoria.
