The Colombian could seek a move after falling down the midfield hierarchy in Lisbon, one year after rejecting Roma.
Richard Ríos could return to AS Roma’s transfer radar one year after choosing Benfica over the Giallorossi.
Roma pursued the Colombian midfielder throughout last summer but were unable to convince him to move to the Italian capital. Ríos instead joined Benfica, where he initially appeared to have found the right environment for his development.
His situation has since changed. José Mourinho’s departure reduced some of the stability Ríos had found in Lisbon, while Benfica’s signing of João Palhinha has added further competition in midfield.
According to Colombian journalist Carlos Antonio Vélez, the player’s representatives are already looking for a possible solution. Ríos wants more playing time and an important role at his next club rather than remaining a secondary option.
Roma continue to appreciate the midfielder and his name remains on Tony D’Amico’s list. There is no indication that negotiations have started, but his desire to leave could create a new opportunity for the Giallorossi.
Ríos remains under contract with Benfica until 2030 and has a €100million release clause.
However, a move for Rios would entirely depend on Roma’s ability to move out a midfielder with only days left in the market.
