9:28 AM ET — Roma abandon Morato move over Nottingham Forest demands
According to Filippo Biafora, Morato will not be the defender Roma sign to replace Monza-bound Jan Ziolkowski.
Nottingham Forest are demanding either a permanent transfer or a straightforward obligation to buy, while the Giallorossi are unwilling to invest approximately €15 million in that position and will pursue another target.
Roma continue monitoring the Brazilian defender following the collapse of the Oosterwolde deal, but the clubs remain divided over the transfer formula.
Roma continue to consider Nottingham Forest defender Morato as they look to strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini’s defensive options before the transfer window closes.
According to Matteo Moretto, the principal obstacle is the structure of the proposed operation. Nottingham Forest currently want to sell Morato permanently and are not prepared to approve Roma’s preferred loan formula.
The Giallorossi had explored an initial loan with an option to buy that could become mandatory under certain conditions. Forest’s stance has prevented negotiations from advancing, leaving the potential transfer in a difficult position.
Morato move linked to Ziolkowski departure
Roma’s need for another defender has increased following the collapse of the proposed deal for Jayden Oosterwolde.
Jan Ziolkowski is also expected to leave Trigoria in search of regular playing time, with Monza working to sign the Polish centre-back on loan. Roma, however, want to secure a replacement before authorizing his departure.
Morato remains one of the profiles under consideration. The 25-year-old is left-footed and would provide Gasperini with an additional option on the left side of his three-man defence.
Unless Nottingham Forest soften their demands, Roma may have to consider alternative targets or make a significant change to their proposal. The situation remains open, but an agreement is not currently close.
Roma search for Morato alternative amid Nottingham Forest impasse
According to Lorenzo Canicchio, Roma and Nottingham Forest have remained far apart over the proposed formula for Morato from the beginning despite reports two days ago suggesting the transfer was close.
Roma do not believe they can satisfy the English club’s demands and have consequently been searching for another defender for the past two days.
