According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the purchase option in Leonardo Balerdi’s Roma deal will become mandatory if conditions connected to the defender’s appearances and playing time are met alongside the Giallorossi qualifying for European competition.
The Argentine defender will join the Giallorossi on an initial paid loan containing a purchase option that can become mandatory.
Roma have reached an agreement with Olympique Marseille to sign Leonardo Balerdi, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer will be completed through an initial paid loan containing an option to buy. That clause can become an obligation if the conditions established in the agreement are met.
Balerdi is expected to arrive in Rome during the weekend to complete the remaining formalities and finalize his move to the Giallorossi. Roma had already reached an agreement on personal terms with the Argentine, who gave his approval to the transfer.
The 27-year-old will strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini’s central defensive options and replace Jan Ziolkowski in the first-team squad. The Polish defender is set to join Monza on loan with an €18 million purchase option.
Roma initially submitted a loan proposal for Balerdi before negotiations advanced rapidly. Marseille subsequently authorized the defender to travel, with the clubs now reaching a complete agreement.
Balerdi is expected to undergo his medical examinations and sign his contract after landing in the Italian capital.
