The 20-year-old midfielder has discussed his four years at Trigoria and admitted he does not know why Roma allowed him to leave.
Alessandro Romano has emerged as one of Cagliari’s early-season protagonists after scoring on his debut against Parma.
The 2006-born midfielder previously spent four years in Roma’s academy, progressing through the youth ranks before continuing his career away from the Italian capital.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Romano reflected on his development at Trigoria and the circumstances surrounding his eventual departure.
Romano: “I Don’t Know Why Roma Let Me Leave”
When asked why Roma allowed him to move on, Romano admitted that he still does not have a clear explanation.
“Why? That’s a good question—I don’t know. I spent four wonderful years at Trigoria. I arrived as a youngster with the Under-16s and was away from home for the first time. It wasn’t easy, but they helped me a lot.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his exit, the midfielder spoke positively about the support he received during his formative years with Roma.
Pisacane Call Changed Romano’s Future
Romano progressed through Roma’s academy before making his Serie A debut and subsequently joining Spezia on loan.
“I completed the entire journey through to my Serie A debut and the loan at Spezia. At the end of the season, I didn’t have a clear idea of what would happen. Pisacane’s call changed things.”
The opportunity to join Cagliari has already provided Romano with an important role and the chance to establish himself at senior level.
His debut goal against Parma represented an ideal beginning to the latest chapter of a career that began taking shape during his four years at Trigoria.
