Roma have officially confirmed that Neil El Aynaoui has joined RB Leipzig on loan with an option to buy.
The midfielder leaves the Italian capital after making 35 appearances across all competitions for the Giallorossi and scoring two goals.
In their announcement, Roma wished El Aynaoui good luck for the future.
The Moroccan midfielder could return to Roma after an unexpected deadline-day obstacle emerged in his proposed transfer to Germany.
Roma could face another major deadline-day surprise, with Neil El Aynaoui’s proposed move to RB Leipzig reportedly at risk of collapsing.
The midfielder had appeared set to leave the Italian capital after Roma accepted Leipzig’s offer, but the operation has encountered an unexpected obstacle during its final stages.
El Aynaoui Could Return to Roma
According to Foot Mercato, the agreement that would take El Aynaoui to Germany is now in serious danger of falling through.
The exact cause of the potential collapse has not yet been disclosed. Unless the issue is resolved before the transfer deadline, El Aynaoui could return to Roma and remain part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.
No official confirmation has arrived from either club, and the situation remains in development.
Roma Had Already Signed De Roon
Roma moved quickly to replace El Aynaoui by completing the signing of Marten de Roon from Atalanta on a free transfer.
The experienced Dutch midfielder immediately joined Gasperini’s squad and made his debut as a substitute during Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Lecce.
El Aynaoui’s agreement with Leipzig was reportedly worth €3 million plus €1 million in bonuses for the initial loan. The Bundesliga club would also hold a €28 million option to buy, while Roma would retain an 18–20% percentage of a future resale.
Should the move collapse, Roma would need to reassess the composition of their midfield after already adding De Roon to the squad.
