The Bianconeri had identified Nicolás Tagliafico as their preferred solution, but now face competition from Atlético Madrid following the Spanish club’s entry into the negotiations, according to Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto.
The Giallorossi have explored a move for the versatile Colombian defender, who is also attracting interest from Atalanta and Bologna.
Roma are looking toward Juventus as they consider another defensive reinforcement during the final hours of the transfer window.
According to Matteo Moretto, the Giallorossi have requested information about Juan David Cabal, a 24-year-old Colombian capable of playing both as a central defender and at left-back.
Roma Join Race for Cabal
Roma face competition from Atalanta and Bologna for Cabal’s signature. Atalanta have reportedly been working intensively on the operation, and the player has already expressed his openness to a potential move to Bergamo.
However, Atalanta have yet to reach a final agreement with Juventus. The absence of a completed deal has left room for other interested clubs, including Roma, to evaluate whether a late move is possible.
Cabal’s versatility could make him an attractive option for Gian Piero Gasperini. The Colombian can operate on the left side of a back three or provide cover at full-back, giving Roma additional depth across multiple positions.
Juan David Cabal’s Career
Cabal arrived in Italian football in 2022, when Hellas Verona signed him from Atlético Nacional. He made 34 Serie A appearances across two seasons with the Gialloblu before joining Juventus in the summer of 2024 for approximately €12.8 million.
The defender has since made 19 league appearances for Juventus and scored twice last season. His time in Turin has also been interrupted by physical problems, limiting his opportunities to establish a consistent place in the team.
Cabal’s future could now be decided during the closing hours of the transfer window, with Roma monitoring the situation alongside Atalanta and Bologna.
