The Everton Fans’ Forum has demanded answers over the club’s recruitment strategy after a deadline-day deal for Balogun collapsed during his medical examinations.
Everton have made an encouraging start to the Premier League season, collecting four points from their opening two matches. However, frustration surrounding the club’s summer transfer window has overshadowed those early results.
Supporters were particularly disappointed by the collapse of Balogun’s proposed arrival during the final stages of deadline day. The transfer reportedly fell through after an issue emerged during the player’s medical examinations, leaving Everton without one of their intended attacking reinforcements.
The Everton Fans’ Forum has now released a strongly worded statement criticizing the club’s planning, recruitment process and decision-making under the Friedkin ownership.
Supporters question Everton’s transfer planning
The group argued that Everton once again entered the final days of the market attempting to address positions that had required reinforcements for several months.
Supporters acknowledged the financial restrictions facing the club and clarified that they were not demanding reckless spending or high-profile signings simply for appearances. Instead, they called for “competence, preparation and accountability” throughout Everton’s football operation.
The statement also criticized the decision to allow players to depart before suitable replacements had been secured, claiming that the approach left the first-team squad dangerously short in several important areas.
According to the Fans’ Forum, another deadline-day transfer collapsing should not be dismissed as a minor administrative problem because it directly affects the strength of the squad and the options available to the manager.
“Everton cannot continue to operate in this way,” the group said.
Fans demand accountability from Friedkins
The supporters’ group noted that Everton fans had previously been promised a more professional, structured and sustainable recruitment model following the problems experienced under the club’s former ownership.
The statement questioned where the planning and preparation had been during the summer window and demanded greater accountability when the club’s strategy failed to produce the intended results.
Everton supporters were praised for their loyalty throughout some of the most difficult periods in the club’s history, but the Fans’ Forum warned that their patience should not be mistaken for passive acceptance.
The group requested a clear explanation of what went wrong during the transfer window, why important targets were missed and what measures would be introduced to prevent similar failures in the future.
Pressure grows despite positive start
The criticism arrives despite Everton collecting four points from their opening two Premier League fixtures. Those results have provided an encouraging start on the pitch, but supporters remain concerned about whether the squad possesses enough depth to remain competitive over a full season.
The statement concluded by invoking Everton’s historic motto, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum—“nothing but the best is good enough”—and argued that the principle should apply to every level of the club.
“The Everton fans deserve better,” the group concluded. “After everything they have endured, they have the right to demand better.”
The development will also attract attention among Roma supporters because the Friedkin family controls both clubs. While Everton and Roma operate independently, criticism of the ownership’s planning and accountability in England will inevitably generate discussion in the Italian capital following Roma’s own difficult conclusion to the summer transfer window.
