Napoli initially expected Scott McTominay to return after the October international break, but a new report suggests the midfielder could remain unavailable until November.
Napoli could be without Scott McTominay for their Serie A match against Roma following a report that the midfielder’s recovery may require more time than initially anticipated.
Napoli announced that McTominay had been diagnosed with a mild benign arrhythmia and would undergo a corrective ablation procedure. The club’s original timeline indicated that he could return after the October international break, as reported by Sky Sport.
According to Tuttosport, however, the Scottish international could remain unavailable until November.
McTominay Could Miss 11 Matches
The revised timeline could see McTominay miss as many as 11 matches across Napoli’s domestic and European schedule.
His absence would represent a significant setback for Napoli, although the reported return date remains provisional and will depend on his recovery following the procedure.
The club’s initial expectation was that McTominay would become available during the week after the October international break. Tuttosport now suggests his return could be delayed by several additional weeks.
No definitive November return date has been announced by Napoli.
Will McTominay Miss Napoli vs Roma?
If the longer recovery timeline proves accurate, McTominay would be unavailable when Roma visit the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday, October 24.
The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM local time and 12:00 PM ET, according to Roma’s officially confirmed Serie A schedule.
McTominay would consequently miss a second consecutive home meeting with Roma. The former Manchester United midfielder was also absent when the clubs met in Naples in February 2026 because of a separate physical issue.
A Potentially Important Absence for Napoli
McTominay’s physicality, movement into the penalty area and ability to contribute goals make him an important part of Napoli’s midfield.
Missing the Scottish international for an extended period would force Napoli to adjust during a demanding run of Serie A and Champions League fixtures.
Roma also face a congested schedule after returning to Europe’s leading club competition. The Giallorossi have already announced their UEFA squad for the Champions League league phase.
Before looking toward the October meeting with Napoli, Roma remain focused on their immediate schedule, beginning with tonight’s Serie A test against Atalanta.
McTominay’s condition and recovery will continue to be monitored, but his participation against Roma is now reportedly in doubt.
