Former Roma striker Artem Dovbyk scored in stoppage time to rescue Bologna’s first point of the Serie A season in a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo.
Artem Dovbyk has scored his first goal for Bologna—and it arrived at the most important possible moment.
The former Roma striker found the net in stoppage time to rescue a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, preventing Vincenzo Italiano’s side from suffering a third consecutive Serie A defeat.
Dovbyk entered the match in the 66th minute before scoring the equalizer in the 91st, producing a composed left-footed finish from inside the penalty area.
Sassuolo take an early lead
Bologna entered the Emilia-Romagna derby looking for their first points and goals of the new campaign following defeats against Lazio and Atalanta.
The afternoon began badly for the hosts. Josh Doig opened the scoring for Sassuolo in the 19th minute after being found by Luca Cinquegrano.
Bologna responded by increasing their pressure but were unable to equalize before halftime.
The breakthrough finally arrived five minutes after the restart. Roberto Piccoli rose to meet Juan Miranda’s corner and directed a header beyond Arijanet Muric to score Bologna’s first league goal of the season.
Adžić restores Sassuolo’s advantage
Bologna’s celebrations lasted only six minutes.
Vasilije Adžić collected a pass from Kieron Bowie, resisted the defensive challenge and finished past Łukasz Skorupski to restore Sassuolo’s lead in the 56th minute.
With Bologna approaching a third consecutive defeat, the hosts introduced Dovbyk in place of Nicolò Cambiaghi.
The Ukrainian joined Piccoli in attack as Bologna committed more players forward in search of an equalizer.
Dovbyk scores his first Bologna goal
Bologna’s pressure eventually produced its reward in the first minute of stoppage time.
Dovbyk found space inside the penalty area and directed an angled left-footed finish into the net, scoring his first goal since completing his summer move from Roma.
The striker celebrated passionately, removing his shirt before striking the corner flag with a series of punches.
His late intervention secured Bologna’s first point of the season and denied Sassuolo a second league victory. The visitors instead moved onto four points following the 2-2 draw.
Dovbyk opens his account after leaving Roma
Dovbyk joined Bologna on loan with an option to buy after falling behind Donyell Malen in Roma’s attacking hierarchy.
The Ukrainian’s departure also created room for the arrival of Santiago Castro, who has become Malen’s principal alternative in Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad. The financial effect of Dovbyk’s loan was included in our analysis of Roma’s 2026 summer transfer spending.
While Roma have started the season with three consecutive victories, Dovbyk will hope his dramatic first goal can provide the confidence required to establish himself in Bologna’s attack.
The Giallorossi demonstrated their own ability to recover from behind by scoring twice in the closing minutes of their 2-1 victory over Atalanta.
Final score: Bologna 2-2 Sassuolo
Goals: Doig 19′, Piccoli 50′, Adžić 56′, Dovbyk 90+1′
