Roma loanee Jan Ziolkowski is expected to spend an extended period on the sidelines after sustaining a plantar fascia injury shortly after making his Monza debut.
Jan Ziolkowski’s loan spell at Monza has suffered an unfortunate early setback.
The Polish defender, who joined Monza from Roma on loan with an option to buy, has sustained a plantar fascia injury that is expected to keep him unavailable for an extended period.
Monza coach Ivan Juric confirmed the news following his team’s 1-1 Serie A draw away to Parma.
Juric confirms Ziolkowski injury
Ziolkowski was absent from Monza’s squad for the trip to the Stadio Ennio Tardini, where the visitors collected their first point of the league season.
Speaking after the match, Juric revealed the nature of the defender’s injury and admitted that Monza had been unfortunate with several early fitness problems.
“We have been unlucky. Ziolkowski suffered a plantar fascia injury and will be out for an extended period.”
No precise recovery timetable has been officially announced. Ziolkowski will now undergo treatment, with further assessments expected to determine when he can return to training.
Difficult beginning to Monza loan
The injury arrived only days after Ziolkowski completed his temporary transfer from Roma.
The 21-year-old made his Monza debut in the Coppa Italia victory over Torino, entering in the 76th minute and helping Juric’s side protect a 1-0 advantage.

Those 14 minutes against Torino remain his only appearance for Monza so far.
Roma will monitor Ziolkowski’s recovery
Roma will closely follow the defender’s rehabilitation during his season-long loan.
The agreement gives Monza the option to complete a permanent transfer at the end of the campaign. Ziolkowski’s playing time and development were expected to play an important role in determining whether that option would eventually be exercised.
The injury temporarily interrupts that process and leaves Juric without one of the defensive reinforcements added during the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
Ziolkowski made 18 Serie A appearances during his first season with Roma before leaving in search of more consistent playing time. His immediate objective will now be completing his recovery and restarting his Monza experience later in the season.
