Roma reportedly retain an interest in Jadon Sancho and could explore offering the free-agent winger a contract linked to his appearances.
Roma could reconsider a move for Jadon Sancho as the club assess the free-agent market following the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
According to SportMediaset, the English winger remains a possible option for Tony D’Amico as Roma search for an opportunity to complete Gian Piero Gasperini’s attacking department.
One proposal reportedly under consideration would be a performance-based contract, with a significant portion of Sancho’s salary connected to his appearances and playing time.
At this stage, however, the possibility is only an idea. There are no reports of an active negotiation or formal offer from Roma.
Roma still missing a right-footed winger
The incomplete nature of Roma’s squad has never been hidden.
Gasperini repeatedly requested a right-footed left winger capable of beating defenders, cutting inside and offering a different attacking profile. Sporting director D’Amico subsequently admitted that Roma finished the summer window missing one player.
The Giallorossi came close to signing Luiz Henrique and Jamie Leweling, while Chelsea refused to allow Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to leave on loan.
Roma ultimately decided against completing an alternative signing simply to fill the position. Gasperini currently has Lorenzo Pellegrini, Rodrigo Mora and Matías Soulé as possible solutions behind the striker, but none perfectly fits the profile initially requested.
Sancho returns to Roma’s radar
Sancho was involved in lengthy discussions with Roma during the previous summer transfer window, but the proposed move was never completed.
One year later, the circumstances have changed. The 26-year-old is available without a transfer fee and could immediately sign for a new club despite the closure of the Italian transfer window.
Sancho is most comfortable attacking from the left, where he can isolate defenders in one-on-one situations before moving inside to create or shoot. His technical qualities make him the most natural stylistic match among the available players.

Performance-based contract could reduce Roma’s risk
Sancho’s financial demands would represent the largest obstacle to any potential agreement.
Roma continue to operate within UEFA financial restrictions and reduced their wage bill by approximately 15 percent during the summer. Offering a large guaranteed salary would therefore be difficult to reconcile with the club’s current strategy.
According to SportMediaset, D’Amico could consider proposing a contract under which Sancho’s earnings would be linked to his number of appearances.
Such an arrangement could reduce the guaranteed financial commitment while giving the player an opportunity to rebuild his career in Serie A.
The exact structure of any agreement would still require careful negotiation. A signing bonus, agent commissions and performance incentives would all contribute to the overall cost despite the absence of a transfer fee.
Roma may prefer to wait until January
Despite the renewed speculation, Roma’s current intention is reportedly to continue with the existing squad until January.
D’Amico confirmed during his first press conference as Roma sporting director that the club would evaluate the available free agents, but he did not suggest that another signing was imminent.
Gasperini also played down the market during his press conference before the Atalanta match, arguing that the list of available players contained few convincing options.
Roma could therefore use the coming months to assess their attacking depth during a demanding schedule involving Serie A, the Champions League and Coppa Italia.
The club are expected to revisit several targets in January, including Luiz Henrique, Jamie Leweling and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
Sancho remains an idea rather than a negotiation
Sancho would address an obvious tactical need, but considerable uncertainty surrounds the possibility.
Roma would need the Englishman to accept a financially sustainable agreement and demonstrate the motivation and physical readiness required to play in Gasperini’s intense system.
The club must also decide whether adding Sancho now would be preferable to preserving its resources for a priority target in January.
For the moment, Sancho should be considered an intriguing free-agent opportunity rather than an impending Roma signing. The possibility exists, but no concrete negotiation has begun.
