Roma legend Aldair has celebrated the Giallorossi’s return to the Champions League with a special message to the team and its supporters.
Seven years of waiting are almost over. Roma will finally return to Europe’s most prestigious club competition when they face Fenerbahçe in Istanbul tonight at 18:45 CEST—12:45 PM ET.
The occasion has been eagerly anticipated throughout the Roma community and has now been recognized by one of the club’s greatest former players: Aldair.
Aldair: “Enjoy the Champions League, Romanisti”
The former Roma defender shared an emotional message on social media ahead of the opening league-phase match:
“Champions League nights put you up against the best, and every challenge becomes a memory that remains with you. Today, Roma return to experience those emotions. Enjoy the Champions League, Romanisti.”
It was a brief message, but one carrying special significance from a player who represented Roma on the European stage during his distinguished career in the capital.
Aldair spent 13 seasons with the Giallorossi between 1990 and 2003, making more than 400 appearances and becoming one of the most respected defenders in the club’s history.
Roma’s Seven-Year Wait Ends in Istanbul
Roma last appeared in the Champions League in March 2019, when they were eliminated by Porto in the round of 16.
The club subsequently endured several difficult seasons, ownership and coaching changes, financial restrictions and repeated near misses in the pursuit of a top-four Serie A finish. That long journey makes tonight’s return particularly meaningful for the team and its supporters.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side arrive in Istanbul after winning their opening three league matches, including a dramatic comeback against Atalanta.
As Aldair’s message underlined, Champions League nights can create memories that last forever. Roma and their supporters are finally ready to experience them again.
