Roma midfielder Manu Koné will reportedly be evaluated on a day-to-day basis after experiencing discomfort in his knee during the 1-1 Champions League draw with Fenerbahçe.
According to Lorenzo Canicchio, Roma’s medical staff are not currently planning to conduct further tests. The decision suggests that the problem is not considered serious at this stage, although his condition will continue to be monitored at Trigoria.
Koné forced off against Fenerbahçe
Koné started alongside Bryan Cristante in Istanbul and was one of Roma’s most influential players during the first half.
The Frenchman produced an excellent through ball to release Paulo Dybala and helped Roma progress possession through midfield. However, he was unable to complete the match and was replaced by Niccolò Pisilli during the second half.
After the game, Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed that Koné had been substituted because of a physical problem. The latest report has now identified the issue as discomfort in his knee.
Koné doubtful for Torino vs Roma
The midfielder’s availability for Roma’s next Serie A match against Torino will depend on how his knee responds over the coming days.
The absence of scheduled medical examinations is an encouraging initial sign, but Gasperini is unlikely to take unnecessary risks with an important run of matches approaching.
Koné has become a fundamental part of Roma’s midfield and remains central to the club’s plans despite reported interest from Liverpool and Chelsea.
Pisilli, Cristante and Marten De Roon would provide Gasperini with alternatives should Koné be unavailable against Torino. Roma will continue to assess him daily before making a final decision.
