Panathinaikos renew interest in Roma outcast Anass Salah-Eddine

Panathinaikos have reportedly renewed their interest in Roma wing-back Anass Salah-Eddine as the Greek transfer window approaches its conclusion.

Although the Italian market has already closed, Roma could still complete an outgoing transfer with a club operating in a country where the window remains open.

According to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, Panathinaikos are evaluating another attempt to sign Salah-Eddine before the Greek market closes on September 15.

Salah-Eddine remains outside Roma’s plans

Salah-Eddine is no longer part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s technical plans and risks remaining without competitive football until at least January if a transfer cannot be arranged.

Gasperini publicly confirmed the player’s situation before Roma’s match against Atalanta, explaining that the wing-back had rejected several possible destinations and was not included in his plans.

Roma had already attempted to find a solution before the Italian deadline, but Salah-Eddine rejected a proposed move to West Ham. Previous interest from Greece also failed to convince the Moroccobel international.

Panathinaikos could now provide Roma with one final opportunity to complete his departure before January.

The Greek club are reportedly assessing whether an agreement can be reached with Roma and, more importantly, whether Salah-Eddine can be persuaded to accept the move.

A transfer would give the 24-year-old an opportunity to secure regular playing time after falling to the margins of Gasperini’s squad. Roma, meanwhile, would be able to remove a player who is unlikely to feature and potentially reduce the club’s wage bill.

No agreement has been reached, and the final decision will depend heavily on Salah-Eddine. His previous refusals demonstrate that Roma cannot complete an exit without the player approving the destination.

With the Greek deadline approaching, Panathinaikos have only a limited period in which to advance negotiations. If the move does not materialize, Salah-Eddine is likely to remain at Trigoria until the January transfer window.
