Leonardo Balerdi set to start for Roma against Torino

Leonardo Balerdi is reportedly set to make his first Roma start in this afternoon’s Serie A match against Torino.

According to Sky Sport journalist Angelo Mangiante, Gian Piero Gasperini has selected the Argentine in place of Evan Ndicka at the heart of the Giallorossi defence.

Balerdi joined Roma from Marseille during the final days of the summer transfer window and has so far been introduced from the bench. The match at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino will give him his first opportunity to impress from the opening whistle.

Gasperini begins Roma rotation

The decision represents one of the changes expected from Gasperini following Thursday’s Champions League draw against Fenerbahce.

Roma are playing their third match in eight days, with the coach looking to manage his squad before next weekend’s important meeting with Inter. Balerdi’s inclusion allows Ndicka to rest after starting each of Roma’s opening four matches across Serie A and the Champions League.

The Argentine defender recently published an emotional farewell message to Marseille after completing his move to the Italian capital.

Kickoff for Torino vs Roma is scheduled for 18:30 CEST.
