Donyell Malen’s outstanding start at Roma has reportedly attracted serious interest from several Premier League clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
According to Hooligan Soccer, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are monitoring the 27-year-old forward. Transfer reporter Ekrem Konur has also relayed the report, claiming Roma value the Netherlands international at approximately €60–65 million.
Malen is reportedly open to returning to England as he looks to settle what has been described as “unfinished business” in the Premier League.
Arsenal reportedly establish informal contact
Arsenal are believed to be showing the strongest interest and have reportedly placed Malen high on their recruitment list.
Hooligan Soccer claims the North London club have already made informal contact to understand the forward’s position and potential contractual demands. No formal offer has been submitted, but Arsenal are searching for an explosive attacker capable of operating centrally or from either wing.
Malen previously spent two years in Arsenal’s academy after joining from Ajax in 2015. He left for PSV Eindhoven in 2017 without making a senior appearance for the Gunners.
Chelsea have reportedly continued compiling detailed performance reports on the Roma attacker, while Manchester City are also keeping him on their shortlist as they consider adding a more direct threat in transition.
All three clubs are understood to be keeping their scouting information updated ahead of the January 2027 transfer window, although no official negotiations have started.
Roma set €60–65 million asking price
Roma reportedly have no immediate intention of losing one of Gian Piero Gasperini’s most important attacking players halfway through the campaign.
The Giallorossi remain in a strong negotiating position following Malen’s recent arrival and would only consider a winter departure if presented with an exceptional financial package.
According to the report, Roma’s asking price stands at approximately €60–65 million, equivalent to around $69–75 million. Should formal negotiations begin, the club would reportedly request a significant guaranteed fee, performance-related bonuses and a future sell-on clause.
Malen’s importance to Gasperini has grown rapidly. He has scored six goals across Roma’s opening four Serie A matches, matching Francesco Totti’s start to the 2001/02 campaign and helping the club record four consecutive victories.
Why Malen appeals to Premier League clubs
Malen’s versatility makes him an attractive option for Europe’s leading sides. The right-footed attacker can lead the line, play from either flank or operate alongside another forward.
His acceleration, direct running and aggressive finishing have made him a natural fit for Gasperini’s system. His previous experience in Arsenal’s academy could also make a return to English football more straightforward.
The Netherlands international has formed a productive relationship with Paulo Dybala, with Gasperini praising the way their contrasting qualities complement one another.
For now, the reported interest has not developed into a formal bid. However, Arsenal’s alleged informal approach and the continued monitoring from Chelsea and Manchester City could make Malen one of the major names to watch ahead of January.
