Inter defender John Stones has been ruled out of Saturday’s Serie A showdown against Roma after suffering a muscular injury.
Stones underwent clinical and instrumental examinations at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano on Thursday morning after being forced off during Inter’s victory over Udinese.
The tests confirmed a problem affecting the flexor muscles in his left thigh.

Inter released the following medical update:
“Tests revealed a muscular strain to the flexor muscles of his left thigh. His condition will be reassessed over the coming days.”
The former Manchester City defender will therefore miss the match against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, September 19.
Reports suggest Stones could remain unavailable for approximately one month, potentially keeping him out until after the international break. Inter have not confirmed a precise recovery timetable and will continue evaluating his condition.

Stones is not the only important player Cristian Chivu is expected to be without in the capital.
Hakan Calhanoglu is also unavailable after medical examinations revealed a muscular strain in the adductor of his right thigh. The midfielder’s condition will be monitored, but he is not expected to recover in time to face Roma.
Their absences leave Chivu with important decisions to make for an early-season meeting between the two teams currently level at the top of Serie A.
Yann Bisseck is expected to join Manuel Akanji and Alessandro Bastoni in Inter’s three-man defence. Zielinski is the leading candidate to replace Calhanoglu in midfield alongside Nicolò Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Luis Henrique and Federico Dimarco are expected to occupy the wing-back positions, with Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram continuing together in attack.
