Roma have received a fitness boost ahead of Saturday’s Serie A showdown with Inter as Mario Hermoso has returned to full training.
The Spanish defender worked separately during Wednesday afternoon’s session after suffering a minor ankle contusion. According to Sky Sport journalist Angelo Mangiante, the issue was not considered serious.
Hermoso rejoined his teammates for Thursday’s training session and completed the scheduled work with the group.
Hermoso available for Roma vs Inter
The 31-year-old is therefore expected to be available when Roma host Inter at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, September 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 18:00 CET.
Hermoso has played an important role in Gian Piero Gasperini’s defensive system during Roma’s perfect start to the Serie A season. His ability to defend aggressively, advance with the ball and contribute in attacking areas has made him a regular presence in the back three.
The defender also scored the equalizer during Roma’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Atalanta, providing the team with the belief required to complete the turnaround.
Gasperini must now decide which three defenders will start against Inter. Hermoso, Gianluca Mancini, Evan Ndicka and Leonardo Balerdi are all competing for places after Balerdi impressed during the 2-0 victory over Torino.
Hermoso’s immediate return means Roma are not expected to take any special precautions with him before Saturday’s early-season clash between Serie A’s two perfect teams.
