For 45 minutes, Roma looked ready to make a statement against the reigning champions. Manu Koné scored twice, the midfield pressed relentlessly and the Olimpico was in full voice. Then Lautaro Martínez struck immediately after half-time and again in the 79th minute to earn Inter a 2-2 draw.
Roma remain unbeaten after five Serie A matches, but the difference between their two halves makes this a difficult point to celebrate. Here are our ratings.
Roma player ratings vs Inter
Mile Svilar — 7: Made a superb intervention to deny Yann Bisseck and produced another outstanding save before Inter’s equaliser. Lautaro eventually found a way past him twice, but Svilar gave Roma every chance to hold on.
Gianluca Mancini — 5.5: His attacking movement helped create Koné’s second goal, and he competed well in the first half. An error in the build-up to Inter’s first goal proved costly. Evan Ndicka (60’) — 6: Won early duels after coming on, though a booking made his assignment against Marcus Thuram more difficult.
Leonardo Balerdi — 7: Another impressive start against elite opposition. His pace, aggression and recovery defending helped Roma contain Inter’s forwards before he departed exhausted. Daniele Ghilardi (66’) — 5.5: Entered a match that was becoming increasingly physical and struggled to settle.
Mario Hermoso — 6: Made useful interventions without offering as much going forward as he has in recent weeks. Could not do enough to prevent the late equaliser. Konstantinos Koulierakis (80’) — Not rated: Too little time to assess.
Wesley — 6.5: Brought energy to both ends of the pitch and worked hard in his duel with Federico Dimarco. A positive return to the starting side.
Bryan Cristante — 6.5: Read Inter’s passing lanes exceptionally well in the first half and helped Roma control midfield. His influence was harder to sustain as the match opened up after the break.
Manu Koné — 8.5 — Player of the Match: Two composed finishes, one with each foot, capped a commanding midfield display. His timing in the penalty area gave Roma a dimension Inter did not expect. Roma lost some of their control after he went off. Niccolò Pisilli (60’) — 5.5: Came on as the momentum shifted towards Inter and could not restore it.
Nahuel Molina — 7: His headed assist set up the opener, and he combined attacking ambition with a committed defensive performance. Devyne Rensch (60’) — 6: Disciplined after entering, without making a major impact.
Paulo Dybala — 7: His delivery initiated both Roma goals and his vision repeatedly troubled Inter. He will be disappointed not to have taken a promising chance himself, and his influence faded in the second half.
Matías Soulé — 6: Direct and difficult to contain before the interval, but his final ball was inconsistent. Like much of Roma’s attack, he became quieter as Inter took control.
Donyell Malen — 6: Worked across the front line and fashioned chances despite close attention from Inter’s defence. Josep Martínez denied him with a remarkable save, but Roma needed him involved more consistently.
Gasperini rating
Gian Piero Gasperini — 6: His starting approach worked: Roma were aggressive, organised and 2-0 up at half-time. The response to Inter’s early second-half goal was less convincing, and the substitutions did not help Roma regain control. Thirteen points from five matches is an excellent start, but this was a lead his side will feel they should have protected.
