Bryan Cristante will remain in Rome during the international break after withdrawing from Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad. The Roma midfielder had initially been called up alongside teammate Gianluca Mancini, but lower-back pain will prevent him from reporting to Coverciano.
The Italian Football Federation confirmed that Cristante was unavailable following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Inter. Italy have called up Como midfielder Samuele Ricci in his place.
What Cristante’s withdrawal means for Roma
Cristante will stay in the capital, where Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma’s medical staff can monitor him during the break. The federation described his absence as a physical problem and did not provide a recovery timetable, so it is too early to say whether it will affect his availability when club football resumes.
Roma have three weeks before their next run of fixtures. While several Giallorossi players will be away with their national teams, Cristante will now have that time at Trigoria to recover rather than add international matches to his workload.
