Paulo Dybala has selected Roma teammate Matias Soulé as his ideal partner for a two-on-two match while discussing his footballing journey as part of the promotional campaign for EA Sports FC 27.
Anticipation continues to build ahead of the worldwide release of FC 27 on September 25, with players who purchased the Ultimate Edition already receiving early access.
Among the game’s new features is “The Grounds,” a mode in which users will be able to interact with several prominent footballers, including Dybala.
Dybala names the most important mentor in his life
Speaking in a new FC 27 promotional video, Dybala was asked to identify the person who had served as his greatest mentor.
“My father, obviously,” the Roma forward responded. “He was the one who first got me playing football, together with my brothers. I think that, on a human level, they are my source of inspiration.”
Dybala also discussed his influence inside the Roma dressing room but preferred to allow his teammates to judge the importance of his leadership.
“I think the other players should say that,” he explained. “I simply try to help everyone, and I hope my teammates are proud of me.”
The Argentine’s story shares similarities with the experience presented in “The Grounds.” Long before competing at the highest level, Dybala developed his ability by playing informal matches with his friends in his hometown.
“I started in my town,” he said. “We played everywhere with my friends.”
Those early games did not require professional pitches or regulation-sized goals.
“We played with goals made between two backpacks or between the trees,” Dybala recalled.
Ronaldinho inspired Paulo Dybala
When asked to name his childhood footballing idol, Dybala selected Brazilian legend Ronaldinho rather than one of Argentina’s celebrated stars.
“Ronaldinho,” he answered. “I also really liked Riquelme, especially his celebration.”
Ronaldinho’s creativity and technical freedom left a lasting impression on Dybala, whose own playing style has frequently been associated with imagination, close control and an exceptional left foot.
Juan Román Riquelme was another important influence, with Dybala specifically remembering the former Boca Juniors star’s iconic celebration.
Dybala chooses Soulé for a two-on-two match
Matias Soulé featured prominently during the final part of the interview. Asked which player he would choose as his partner for a two-on-two game, Dybala selected his Roma and Argentina teammate.
The two forwards have developed a close relationship in the Italian capital and regularly operate together in Gian Piero Gasperini’s attack.
Dybala also offered a lighthearted assessment of Soulé’s musical choices inside the dressing room.
“Sometimes he plays strange music, but mostly reggaeton,” the 32-year-old joked.
Soulé’s selection underlines the connection between Roma’s two Argentine attackers, both on and off the pitch. Their technical understanding has become an important element of Gasperini’s team during its impressive start to the 2026/27 season.
