Daniele De Rossi’s return to Ostia and his project with Ostiamare will be documented in a new television series arriving on Sky and NOW.
The former Roma captain is currently focused on improving Genoa’s results after the international break, but he remains deeply involved with the club where his football journey began.
Titled RADICI, the seven-episode docuseries will follow De Rossi’s return to Ostia and the first season of his project with newly promoted Serie C club Ostiamare.
RADICI explores De Rossi’s return to Ostia
The series is produced by DDR Media and Damocle and directed by Nicola Ravera Rafele.
Before becoming a Roma icon, representing Italy and winning the World Cup, De Rossi took his first steps in football on a pitch in Ostia.
RADICI’s official description presents the project as more than the story of a football club. The series will also examine how a community can grow and renew itself through sport.
Ostia will not merely provide the setting. Its identity, residents and historic relationship with football will form an essential part of the narrative.
Ostiamare project goes beyond results
The docuseries will follow Ostiamare’s attempt to grow without losing its connection to the local community.
It will focus on the role a sporting institution can play for young people, families and the wider neighborhood, while exploring De Rossi’s decision to return to the environment that helped shape him.
After experiencing football at the highest level, De Rossi has invested in a project that aims to combine competitive ambition with community development.
The former Roma coach is simultaneously continuing his managerial career with Genoa, where he was recently reunited with former teammate Stephan El Shaarawy.
Series examines the evolution of modern football
RADICI will also consider how football has evolved into a global industry built around entertainment, media content and major events.
Rather than approaching the past through nostalgia, the series will ask which traditional aspects of football should be preserved.
The local pitch, the dressing room, the relationship between a team and its supporters, and the sense of belonging to a community will all feature prominently.
Ostiamare’s story represents the challenge of becoming more ambitious without abandoning the identity that made the club important to Ostia.
RADICI will be released on Sky and NOW, although an official premiere date has not yet been announced.
