Former Roma striker Daniel Osvaldo has reportedly been hospitalized in intensive care after suffering a pleural effusion.
According to TyC Sports, the 40-year-old underwent surgery at a public hospital in Llavallol, Argentina, after being admitted on Thursday evening.
Osvaldo remained in intensive care following the operation and his prognosis was described as reserved at the time of the report.
Hospital has not released an official medical update
TyC Sports reported that the hospital had not issued an official medical bulletin providing further information about Osvaldo’s condition or recovery.
A pleural effusion involves an accumulation of fluid in the space surrounding the lungs. Osvaldo reportedly required surgery after being admitted to hospital, but additional details have not been officially confirmed.
Other Argentine outlets, including TN and La Nación, also reported that the former forward was receiving intensive care in Llavallol.
Osvaldo’s time with Roma
Osvaldo represented Roma between 2011 and 2013 and became known for his technical quality and spectacular goals during his time in the Italian capital.
The former Italy international also played for clubs including Fiorentina, Juventus, Inter, Southampton, Porto and Boca Juniors before retiring from professional football.
