Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio before his tibia injury

Raúl Asencio Ruled Out of Roma vs Real Madrid After Tibia Injury

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio will miss the upcoming Champions League match against Roma after suffering a stress fracture in his right tibia.

The Spanish club confirmed that the defender will undergo surgery on October 1.

“Our player Raúl Asencio will undergo surgery tomorrow after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in the tibia of his right leg,” Real Madrid announced in an official statement.

Real Madrid’s Injury Problems Grow Before Roma Match

The injury is expected to keep Asencio out for the remainder of 2026, immediately ruling him out of Real Madrid’s visit to the Stadio Olimpico on October 14.

It represents another defensive problem for former Roma coach José Mourinho ahead of his return to the Italian capital.

Ibrahima Konaté is also a major doubt after suffering a collateral ligament injury, while Federico Valverde is expected to miss the match because of a serious ankle sprain.

There is also uncertainty surrounding Kylian Mbappé. The French forward recently suffered a knee problem while representing his national team, leaving his availability for the Champions League encounter in question.

Real Madrid will continue to assess their injured players over the coming days, but Asencio has become the first to be definitively ruled out of the match against Roma.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side will host the Spanish club in their second Champions League home fixture of the season, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 CET at the Stadio Olimpico.
