Roma reportedly explored a move for Como midfielder Lucas Da Cunha during the summer transfer window before the player ultimately decided to remain with Cesc Fabregas’ side.
According to Transferfeed.com, the Giallorossi were among several Italian clubs to express an interest in Da Cunha. Napoli and Atalanta also considered moves for the 25-year-old following his performances for Como.
Premier League Clubs Also Targeted Da Cunha
Da Cunha attracted further attention from England, where several Premier League teams reportedly identified him as one of their leading transfer targets.
None of the potential deals materialized, however, and the player chose to continue his development under Fabregas at Como.
Da Cunha’s versatility would have made him an intriguing option for Gian Piero Gasperini. The former Rennes player can operate in several midfield and attacking roles, offering creativity, mobility and the ability to carry the ball into advanced areas.
Roma ultimately pursued different targets during the summer, but their reported interest provides another indication of the type of technically versatile player considered by the club’s recruitment department.
It remains unclear whether Roma could revisit Da Cunha’s situation during a future transfer window or whether their interest ended following the summer discussions.
