Donyell Malen has been named the first EA Sports FC Serie A Player of the Month of the 2026-27 season following his exceptional start with Roma.
Serie A officially announced the award after Malen scored six goals during the opening portion of the campaign, helping Gian Piero Gasperini’s team remain unbeaten and emerge as an early contender near the top of the table.
Malen Rewarded After Six-Goal Start
Malen began the season with a hat-trick against Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico before continuing his impressive form against Lecce and Torino.
His six goals across those three matches established him as one of Serie A’s leading scorers and earned him a place among the candidates for the opening award, which covered the August and September fixtures.
The Dutch international ultimately received the prize following a combination of fan voting and statistical analysis based on tracking data.
Malen’s impact has extended beyond his finishing. His movement inside the penalty area, ability to attack space and effectiveness during Roma’s high pressing have made him the central figure in Gasperini’s attack.
Malen Wins Second Serie A Monthly Award With Roma
This is the second time Malen has won the Serie A Player of the Month award since joining Roma.
He previously received the prize in February 2026, shortly after arriving from Aston Villa, following an immediate goalscoring impact in Italian football.
Roma subsequently made his transfer permanent, tying the forward to the club until June 2030. Malen has continued to flourish after being moved into a central attacking role, where his speed and direct movement can be used closer to goal.
The latest individual recognition underlines his importance to Roma and confirms his status as one of Serie A’s most decisive attacking players.
