Arsenal have reportedly added Roma wing-back Wesley to their list of potential transfer targets, but the Giallorossi have no intention of selling the Brazilian.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mikel Arteta’s side are searching for a new wide defender and have been attracted by Wesley’s ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.
Roma, however, continue to consider the 23-year-old a central part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s project and are unwilling to discuss a departure at this stage.
Arsenal Monitoring Wesley
Wesley’s athleticism and versatility make him an appealing profile for Premier League clubs.
The former Flamengo player can operate on either flank, carry the ball forward with pace and provide the intensity required to contribute defensively. Players capable of covering an entire wing are particularly valuable in the modern transfer market.
Arsenal are reportedly the latest English club to monitor the Brazilian, with Manchester United and Chelsea also linked with him in recent months.
Despite the growing interest, Roma’s position remains clear: Wesley is not for sale.
The Giallorossi view him as an important player for both the present and future, and his characteristics make him particularly valuable within Gasperini’s demanding system.
Wesley Searching for His First Goal of the Season
Wesley has yet to reach his best form during the opening weeks of the campaign. He currently has no goals and one assist, but his underlying creative contribution remains significant.
The Brazilian has created 13 scoring opportunities—more than any other Roma wing-back. Nahuel Molina has created seven, while Emanuele Lulli has produced four.
Those numbers demonstrate why Gasperini continues to trust Wesley despite his limited direct contribution to Roma’s goals.
The wing-back missed Brazil’s international fixtures because of a physical problem but is expected to return to group training after recovering during the break.
The additional time at Trigoria has allowed him to work toward rediscovering his best physical condition ahead of Roma’s trip to Como.
Roma Consider Wesley a Key Player
Roma invested heavily in Wesley and remain convinced that he has significant room for further development.
His combination of speed, stamina and tactical flexibility is difficult to replace, especially within a system that places considerable responsibility on its wing-backs.
Unless an extraordinary offer changes the club’s position, Roma intend to retain the Brazilian and allow Gasperini to continue his development.
Arsenal’s interest confirms Wesley’s growing reputation outside Italy, but Roma are currently focused on helping him rediscover his best form rather than considering a sale.
