Edoardo Bove at the Stadio Olimpico

Edoardo Bove Reflects on Roma Bond and Hopes for Future Italy Return

Edoardo Bove has spoken about his enduring connection to Roma, the challenges of returning to football with Watford and his hope of one day playing in Italy again.

The former Giallorossi midfielder was speaking at the presentation of In un battito, the documentary directed by Giovanni Troilo that will be shown in cinemas on November 16, 17 and 18.

The film follows his personal journey after the medical emergency that interrupted his career, exploring the difficulties and emotions surrounding his return to the pitch.

Bove: “Roma Fans Go Beyond Results”

Reflecting on his return to the Olimpico after his collapse, Bove described the significance of the reception he received.

“That day, it was truly emotional for me to return to the stadium where I grew up and receive that kind of affection, which, to be honest, I did not even feel I deserved for what I had done on the pitch.

“But Roma fans are also like that: they go a little beyond results and those kinds of things.”

Returning to Football Was Not Always Easy

Bove also discussed his fresh start at Watford, explaining that the joy of playing again came alongside a demanding adjustment period.

“Returning to the pitch with Watford was another enormous emotion, but I think one of the things that comes across in the film, and that is important to underline, is that the return was sometimes difficult.

“I started training again, it took me a little time and I did not play straight away.”

First-Aid Awareness and the “Bove Law”

Asked about the proposed legislation known as the “Bove law,” the midfielder spoke about its potential progress and the connections he has made through the documentary.

“It is a bill that I believe can be approved. I have been told it will be scheduled in January, so that is another very important step.

“It is a journey we also began thanks to the film, because I came into contact with many associations and foundations that provide information and raise awareness about first aid.”

“In the Future, I Would Like to Return to Italy”

Bove addressed the separate question of whether changes to the rules could eventually allow him to resume his playing career in Italy. While emphasising his happiness at Watford, he admitted that a future return appeals to him.

“As for the possibility of returning to play in Italy through a change in the law, the truth is that these kinds of regulations are still evolving.

“Right now, I am genuinely happy where I am; I cannot hide that. One of my goals was to play abroad and test myself in a different environment.

“But I cannot hide that, with one eye, one ear and a little bit of everything, I am still here in Italy. I watch Serie A, I follow the matches and, in the future, why not? I would like to return to Italy.”

His attention remains on Roma’s progress, too, although he offered a measured assessment of their encouraging start.

“Serie A is a long championship. Roma have started well, but let’s see how the season develops.”
