Sabatini backs Roma to fight for Scudetto until the final game

Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini believes Gian Piero Gasperini’s side can sustain their Scudetto challenge until the final match of the season.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Sabatini praised the Giallorossi’s football, determination and resilience during their strong start to the campaign. However, he warned that injuries could shape the title race, identifying Manu Koné as Roma’s most significant current absentee.

Sabatini: “Roma are playing thrilling football”

Asked whether Roma could remain in contention until the end of the season, Sabatini delivered an emphatic endorsement of Gasperini’s team.

“They deserve to be there. They are playing thrilling football. They are a very determined, solid team — a single, united block. They are difficult to play against and, above all, difficult to beat.

“They deserve what they have, and I believe their progress will be consistent with what they are doing now. They will certainly fight for the Scudetto until the final game.”

His comments reflect confidence not only in Roma’s results, but also in the identity the team is developing under Gasperini.

For Sabatini, the Giallorossi’s combination of attacking quality and collective strength provides a foundation for a sustained challenge.

Koné’s absence more significant than Dybala’s

Asked how much Roma’s prospects would depend on Paulo Dybala’s condition, Sabatini widened the discussion to the club’s injury situation.

The former sporting director singled out Koné’s importance to the balance of the midfield.

“A lot will depend on the injured players in general, because it isn’t just Dybala. The most serious absence for Roma at the moment is Manu Koné.

“He is a midfielder who, on his own, gives an entire department its organisation and completeness.

“Missing players are affecting so many teams. There is an avalanche of muscular injuries, which is worrying, but it affects everyone. It is a phenomenon that will influence the final outcome of the league.”

Sabatini’s assessment places the recovery of Roma’s injured players at the centre of their ambitions, while acknowledging that their rivals face similar challenges.

Inter’s attacking approach comes with risks

Sabatini also addressed whether Inter’s defensive vulnerabilities could open the door for their title rivals.

Rather than identifying a fundamental weakness, he argued that the chances Inter concede are a consequence of their attacking intentions.

“Inter do not have a genuine defensive weakness. They have vulnerabilities caused by certain choices.

“Let me explain: Inter always want to play football, attacking football. It is understandable that they occasionally get caught out. It is a choice that prioritises entertainment, and you know you will face some counterattacks.

“But when you weigh up what they gain and what they concede, I believe the balance will always be positive for Inter.”

While Sabatini remains convinced of Inter’s strength, he sees Roma as capable of staying in the fight. His prediction is clear: Gasperini’s team have earned their position and can remain contenders until the very end.
