The Premier League club are evaluating the Lyon winger as negotiations with Marseille for Igor Paixão move slowly.
Sunderland have entered the race for Roma target Malick Fofana, according to Santi Aouna.
The English club have explored the possibility of signing the Belgian winger during the past few hours as their negotiations with Marseille for Igor Paixão continue to progress slowly.
Sunderland’s interest creates further competition for Roma, while Hull City have already submitted a verbal offer worth €35 million.
Hull have also held a video call with Fofana to present their project and are awaiting his response.
Roma have agreement with Fofana
Roma have already reached an agreement with Fofana over contractual terms, but the Giallorossi have yet to advance negotiations with Lyon.
The French club need to generate immediate revenue following their Champions League elimination and are unwilling to approve a loan. Their demand for an immediate payment makes the transfer difficult for Roma because of the club’s current financial restrictions.
Fofana remains an alternative for Gian Piero Gasperini, but Jamie Bynoe-Gittens currently ranks ahead of him on Roma’s winger shortlist.
Lyon have encouraged Roma to proceed, but the Giallorossi remain on standby. Sunderland and Hull could therefore gain an advantage if Roma do not make a decision during the final days of the transfer window.
