Both players trained with the group at Trigoria as they work toward returning to Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad for Saturday’s match against Atalanta.
Roma’s third Serie A match of the season is approaching, with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side set to face Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, September 5.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:45 PM CEST—or 2:45 PM ET—as the Giallorossi attempt to preserve their perfect start to the campaign against Maurizio Sarri’s team.
Roma and Atalanta Begin With Consecutive Wins
Both teams enter the match after winning their opening two Serie A fixtures.
Roma recorded consecutive 4-0 victories over Fiorentina and Lecce, scoring eight goals without conceding. Donyell Malen has been the central figure in that impressive start, scoring five times across the two matches.
Gasperini’s side produced another commanding performance in their 4-0 victory over Lecce at the Via del Mare.
Atalanta have also collected six points after defeating Sassuolo and Bologna under former Lazio and Napoli coach Sarri.
Rensch and Pellegrini Rejoin Group Training
Roma trained at Trigoria on Wednesday morning, with encouraging news arriving for Gasperini ahead of Saturday’s match.
Devyne Rensch and Lorenzo Pellegrini both worked with the group as they continued their respective recoveries. Their involvement represents an important step toward returning to competitive action.
The hope is that both players can progress sufficiently to earn a place in the squad against Atalanta, although Roma will continue evaluating their condition during the remaining training sessions.
Gasperini Could Recover Two Important Options
Rensch’s return would give Gasperini another option on the flanks, while Pellegrini can provide additional creativity in midfield or behind the forwards.
The Roma coach recently confirmed that Pellegrini could play in midfield but has also used him in a more advanced position on the left side of the attack.
Neither player will be rushed back before being considered fully ready, especially with Roma’s Champions League campaign beginning away to Fenerbahçe on September 10.
Meanwhile, Evan Ndicka has resumed partial group training after overcoming inflammation, with the latest information available in our update on the defender’s recovery.
Roma Prepare for First Major Test
Saturday’s meeting with Atalanta represents Roma’s most demanding challenge of the season so far.
Gasperini will face the club he guided for several successful years, while Sarri returns to the Olimpico as the coach of one of Roma’s potential rivals for Champions League qualification.
Recovering Rensch and Pellegrini would strengthen Roma’s options as the schedule becomes more demanding across Serie A and European competition.
